ISO 13053-1

The English language standard ISO 18404:2015 deals with the core competencies of key personnel in relation to the application of Six Sigma, Lean as well as Lean Six Sigma.

DMAIC Methodology

Specific metrics used to measure process performance, such as Process Sigma, First Pass Yield (FPY) and Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY) are described. Training content, duration, competencies and the roles of people in the Six Sigma organisation are defined. The minimum training duration for a Six Sigma Green Belt is 5 days, for a Six Sigma Black Belt 20 days and for a Six Sigma Master Black Belt 10 days. A Six Sigma Green Belt has to work on one project, both Six Sigma Master Black Belts and Six Sigma Black Belts have to prove 2 completed projects. Further regulations on certification and examination are not included in the standard, although these would have been helpful.

Systematic prioritisation methods are recommended for project selection. The individual phases of the DMAIC control loop as well as the methods used in the phases are listed in a table. A distinction is made between recommended, suggested and mandatory methods. Further recommendations are given on project management and the number of people in the Six Sigma organisation.

ISO 13054-2

Part 2 of ISO 13053-2:2011 describes common tools and techniques that can be used in the different phases of the DMAIC control loop.
